Vipers SC became the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League Champions after beating army side UPDF 4-1 on Friday.
Vipers SC finished the League with 65 points, while KCCA FC who are representing Uganda in this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League failed to defend the title as they finished second with 61 points after they were held to a 2-2 draw against Police FC.
“I am so happy that my players have given their best to win the League trophy. It is a good feeling that we shall be playing in the CAF Champions League next year,” Jorge Miguel da Costa, Vipers SC Coach said.
Da Costa who joined the team last year in March said that their target is now to win a double since they are in the semi-finals of the Uganda Cup.
Vipers SC had last won the Premier League title in the 2014/2015 season.
Nicholas Wadada, the Vipers SC captain said it was a long season with tough competition.
Teams that win their respective Premier Leagues in Africa play in the lucrative CAF Champions League, while those that win the knock out Cup compete in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The three teams that have been relegated to the lower Division include; Masavu FC, Proline FC and army side UPDF FC. Nyamityobora FC, Ndejje University FC and Paidha Black Angels FC are the teams that have gained promotion to the 2018/2019 Premier League.
