Ministry of education has decried low budget for inspections for schools as one of the major challenges that have hindered the implementation of the NRM manifesto towards education sector.
Addressing journalists about the performance of the ministry as part of requirement for the NRM manifesto week at the Uganda Media Centre, minister of education Janet Museveni said that their commitment as government is to at least have each primary school inspected once a term by local government and then post primary institutions including secondary schools and BETVET be inspected once a year.
She added that this needs Shs14 billion each financial year, but they only receive Shs2.5billion for primary and Shs2billion for post primary which has led to increased level of teacher and student absenteeism hence deterioration of academic performance.
She also cited out some other challenges including lack of student feeding, lack of access to teaching materials, lack of competent instructors and inadequate physical education in sports among others.
