A London-based lawyer of Ugandan origin has written to a UK-MP Dr. Paul William challenging him to consider ways of engaging the NRM government to develop ideas and assistance to progress development in the country.

Peter Magomu Mashate (pictured above), who is also the general secretary-NRM Diaspora league says much as Dr. William is right to comment on Uganda’s politics, the same MP needs to make further research about Uganda’s history to be able to judge the performance of the current regime.

Dr. Paul William recently attacked President Yoweri Museveni before the Chogm meeting in London accusing him of overstaying in power and arguing that the president is a stumbling block to Uganda’s development.

Mashate says the MP instead of critizing the president for his continued stay in power, the best approach should be dialogue and engagement rather than blanket criticism which he says creates mistrust and alienates rather than endearing.

He says the Policy of dialogue and engagement will produce results and facilitate a peaceful transition at the appropriate time, adding that those seeking power have a duty to seek it through democratic and conventional means and disinformation is not an option in a democratic dispensation.

Mashate says there is need to get accurate information and even put in context the information received taking into account the exceptional history of turbulence before NRM seized power in 1986.
