The Acting Director in the Directorate of Public Health and Environment at KCCA Dr. Daniel Ayen Okello has advised the public to embrace the culture of donating blood.
He notes that this is the only way the country can meet the required recommendation of blood collection by World Health Organisation standards.
Uganda has only 10% of blood needed as hospitals across the country experience an acute shortage.
This is attributed to lack of humanitarianism with people keeping away from donating blood.
The WHO recommended collection target is 370,000 units but as per the end of 2017, only 240,000 units were collected.
Okello who was speaking at a blood donation drive headed by Nile Breweries and Housing Finance Bank said its only emphasis on blood donation drives that will help increase collection.
