The jailed public service officials including Permanent Secretary Jimmy Lwamafa, Principle Accountant Christopher Obey and Commissioner pensions Stephen Kiwanuka Kunsa are to stay on remand at Luzira prison a little longer after hearing of their case is pushed by the Anti-Corruption Court to March 20th 2018 following the reported deteriorating medical condition of their co-accused Bob Kasango.
Court has heard that Kasango, a city advocate is currently admitted at Nakasero Hospital battling heart complications that are not favourable to stand trial.
Kasango is said to have connived with the three officials to steal Shs15.4 billion that was meant to compensate pensioners.
However even though Court of Appeal granted bail to the three officials pending their appeal filed to challenge the 7, 10 and 5 prison terms , they were however not released from prison due to this pending charge before the Anti-corruption court .
Now presiding judge Margret Tibulya has adjourned the hearing of this case to 20th March 2018 with hope that Kasango will be fit to stand trial by then.
It should however be noted that Lwamafa, Obey and Kunsa are already convicts serving prison terms for falsely accounting for Shs 88 billion as NSSF contributions of public servants.
