Police briefly stopped former presidential candidate Kizza Besigye and his team from entering court in Mbarara where he was expected to defend himself over charges of inciting violence in November last year.

Dr Besigye, his driver Fred Kato, his aide Ronald Muhinda and FDC secretary for mobilization Ingrid Turinawe are expected to reappeared in Mbarara Chief Magistrates’s Court where they were charged with assault of four police officers, causing malicious damage to five police vehicles and inciting violence on November 14, 2017.

They were arrested on that fateful Tuesday at about 2pm as they left Grand Holiday Hotel to Kakyeka stadium to canvass for votes for then FDC presidential candidate Mr Patrick Amuriat.

Dr. Besigye and his team were later finally been let into the chief magistrate’s court, media reports said before the case was adjourned to March 6, 2018, due to the absence of trial magistrate, Sanyu Mukasa who is on official leave.

Dr. Besigye has on Tuesday had a confrontation with Police outside a Mbarara courtroom.
