The FIFA-funded Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) has no money to take care of the men’s national football team, Uganda Cranes who depart for Morocco to take part in the Africa Nations Championship (Chan), Fufa president Moses Magogo told President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday.

The 27-man team leaves this afternoon at 3pm via Doha, Qatar.

Magogo made the plea during the Uganda Cranes and She Cranes’ visit to Rwakitura, President Yoweri Museveni’s country where the Head of State questioned Fufa about gate collections during Cranes matches, how they spend money from the ministry of education and sports and State House bailouts.

Neither Fufa nor the ministry officials had a straight answer but when Magogo got the chance to speak, he begged for more money from the President instead.

Magogo told Mr. Museveni that that Uganda Cranes depart for Morocco to take part in the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) starting on January 13 but the team didn’t have any money. They are grouped with Zambia, Ivory Coast and Namibia.

New Cranes coach Sebastiane Desabre’s team will play friendlies against Congo Brazaville and Cameroon in the week ahead.
