Chaotic scenes erupted as protesters besieged the High Court to express support for Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday.
This happened as High Court Judge Margaret Oguli Oumo heard the case of six MPs who are challenging their suspension from Parliament by Ms. Kadaga during the AgeLimit debate last month.
The youth were carrying placards written on “petition blocks youths from participating in substantive politics” “leave Kadaga alone, she is following the law”.
They claimed the petition affected them too.
Police was seen deployed in the vicinity but did not raise a single finger to stop the protesters as would be the case if they belong to opposition.
The case was then dismissed by judge Margret Oumo saying: “court is compelled to say that this matter is beyond its jurisdiction. In the result, I refer this matter to the Constitutional Court and each side should bear it’s costs.”
Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and lawyer for the applicants said their next stop would be a meeting with the Leader of Opposition and the petitioners to take a decision on the way forward.
At the courtroom today, the leader of opposition Hon Winnie Kiiza, who was in court vowed to do whatever is possible “to liberate the constitution.”
President Museveni yesterday assented to the age limit bill recently passed by Parliament on December 27 before sending communication on December 29, 2017.
This therefore, means that Mr Museveni, 73, can run for another term of office come 2021 presidential elections, should he choose to.
