Frank Gashumba and his co accused released on a 20m bond non cash bond after appearing in court on Monday afternoon over forgery.
Gashumba, his brother Innocent Kasumba and Ismail Kiyingi on Monday appeared before the Buganda Road Court where they were charged with forgery.
The trio is charged with 14 counts including personation, unlawful possession of narcotic drugs, forgery.
Forgery contravenes section 342 and 347 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 120.
Gashumba was stood surety by Kalungu MP Sewungu Joseph Gozanga, Musoke Emmanuel (former Kalungu District LC5 chairperson) and John Kigozi Ssebagala – a Kampala businessman.
The accused were not formerly charged due to the absence of the prosecutors who are currently on strike.
The magistrate ordered police to deposit the suspects’ person’s passports in court.
Among the grounds for their bail application was that the accused persons were held in detention for more than 48 hours stated under the constitution.
Mr Gashumba was arrested by the Military Intelligence last Monday when he went to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) headquarters in Mbuya to check on his brother Innocent Kasumba who had earlier been arrested at the weekend for impersonating Ministry of Defence officials.
The UPDF last week also paraded cocaine, marijuana, 20 stamps in names of Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Fisheries and Stanbic Bank from Mr Kasumba’s home.
The case has been adjourned to the 20th of November.
