Due to the growing numbers of passengers and increased competition in the region, Civil Aviation Authority  is focused on avoiding long queues and other minor problems at Entebbe International Airport, the managers this week completing modification of Immigration booths in the Arrivals Hall.

Travelers confessed the airport’s new counters have enhanced passenger facilitation and CAA is confident by increasing the number of counters from 14 to 20, efficiency and reduce on queues will be boosted.

“Some of the new Immigration booths installed are each manned by four people and others three instead of two, which was the case with the old that have been replaced by the project contractor, China Nanjing,” CAA revealed on Thursday.

The development has enhanced efficiency and the speed of facilitating arriving passengers.

The Authority has also introduced a fast tracking lane by dedicating one of the counters to specifically cater for passengers with special needs, first class and Business Class, crew and the like.

“The next step is now to modify the immigration counters on departure to increase their number and further enhance service delivery,” said CAA Manager Public Affairs Vianney Luggya.

Airport expansion

Armed with a $200 million loan from China’s Exim Bank, the CAA says it has reached 26% of the first phase of the expansion of passenger and cargo handling facilities at Entebbe.

“Because of ongoing works many things will change for the better. We shall have elevators and passengers will be dropped right at departures,” Luggya told NBS’s Morning Breeze on Friday.

A 20-year civil aviation masterplan covers the construction of a new cargo centre, a new passenger terminal, a domestic operations terminal, and multistoried parking.

Other actions include the relocation of the fuel farm, and construction of an aircraft maintenance centre and facilities for handling Airbus 380 aircraft. The current passenger terminal building will be expanded to provide better facilities.

Chinese firm Communications Construction Company is undertaking the works
