The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has warned radio and TV stations against broadcasting live content that “promotes a culture of violence amongst the public”.
A September 26th directive to all broadcasters signed by the UCC Executive Director, Mr Godfrey Mutabazi said it would take action against anyone violating broadcasting guidelines by suspending or revoking broadcasting licences.
“The Commission reminds broadcasters that such live broadcast are a breach of minimum broadcasting standards as laid down in Section 31 of the Uganda Communications Act 2013 and best practice guidelines for electronic media coverage/ reporting and broadcasting of live events,” part of the letter said.
The order comes after media broadcast chaotic scenes from parliament on Tuesday, when fighting broke out among MPs as they prepared to debate the contentious removal of the presidential age limit.
