Celebrated Kenyacomedian Eric Omondi is in Kampala on Alex Muhangi’s invitation to put on a show.
Tonight’s Comedy Store showcase at Diners Lounge in Bukoto will feature some of the hottest acts in Uganda all live on stage for five hours of side splitting laughter.
Muhangi an award-winning stand-up comedian, writer and sound engineer ill be the master of ceremonies and promised a massive return when it took a three week break and it is set to do just that.
Eric Omondi’s no-nonsense brand of comedy has made him one of the most in-demand comics in Africa and made a cameo appearance on the highly popular American late night show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“ I am a doctor, I treat illnesses like stress”, once said the hilarious Omondi in an interview with a Kenyan newspaper. The comedian, who started out as a noise maker in class, made his breakthrough when he appeared on Kenya’s well known TV show, The Churchill show. It was there that Eric became a household name and a comedy power force in the region, even performing at big events such as the African Kings of Comedy Festival in Nigeria.
Organizers have promised that tonight’s show will be extra ordinary in many ways. Revellers are to expect a thrilling dose of entertainment from the star studded lineup featuring Uganda’s top comedians; MC Mariachi, Mad Rat and Chiko, Amooti Omubalanguzi and Kerekere.
Other acts will include Tamale Mirundi, Bush, Jajja Bruce, Snake and Zoro, Kobusheshe, Dikhanio, Godi Godi while funny man Alex Muhangi will be host. The Undercover Brothers band will also play shortly before the main comedy segment begins.
When Alex Muhangi started Comedy Store, he said it was not only going to be a platform for Ugandan musicians and comedians but East Africa as a whole.Captain Khalid (Tanzania), Arthur Nkusi (Rwanda), Chipukeezy (Kenya) and Omondi have previously graced the show.
With just hours to the much anticipated day, Alex Muhangi assured comedy lovers that the show will be dynamic and crowded with only the finest entertainers in the industry.
“All the big comedians will be present and it is the first those that had travelled to the U.S for the convention like MC Mariachi, Madrat and Chiko are performing again. And of course also Eric Omondi returns while Nameless is going to perform in Uganda for the first time this year,” Muhangi remarked.
He also added that; “A show like this doesn’t happen in Uganda everyday. So, if you miss it, you can never have another one like that.”
Doors for the special gig will open at 6.30pm.
Tickets go for Ugx 20,000 while those intending to book a table for 5 will part with Ugx 300,000.
A bar will be available throughout the evening.
