Police led by Kampala Central Police Station (DPC) Joseph Bakaleke have towed a Land Cruiser V8 that was carrying former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye into Kampala Central Police Station, forcefully made him disembark from it and bundle into a Nagalama-bound van, eyewitnesses said.
Dr. Besigye was arrested at at mini-price, downtown Kampala barely an hour to the anticipated Parliament debate on the removal of age limit cap from the Constitution.
He had reportedly gone to rally his supporters against the removal of Article 102 (b) that caps presidential age limit at 75 years of age, from the Constitution.
As the officers drove Besigye away from CPS Kampala, supporters at mini-price kept chanting “Togikwatako” [telling police and government not to dare touch the constitution].
“You are a leader and we can’t treat you as am ordinary person,” DPC Joseph Bakaleke pleaded with Besigye.
Meanwhile, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has agreed to allow three private members’ Bills aimed at amending the national to be tabled on the floor of parliament.
Among those allowed is one by Hon Raphael Magezi, which seeks to amend the constitution to remove the Presidential Age Limit.
Other Motions by Hon Sam Lyomoki and Patrick Nsamba were also permitted by the speaker.
