Security Minister Hon. Lt. Gen. Tumukunde has Monday afternoon met with Entebbe Mayor Kayanja and leaders to assess security in Entebbe, Wakiso District.
Several women have been slain by unknown thugs in the past two months which has left many people living in fear.
All of the murders are characterized by brutality and sexual violence.
“We must get to the root of this problem, those killing our people have to answer,” Gen. Tumukunde vowed.
Another woman has allegedly been murdered this weekend bringing the death toll in a spate of murders in the area to eight. Residents in Katabi discovered the body early this morning. The Entebbe main Police station OC CID ASP Zachariah Mbabazi told TheUgandan that no arrests have been made so far in the two latest incidents.
In the afternoon, a body of another unidentified woman has been discovered naked and dumped in Kayiriira Forest reserve in Nkumba bring the number of victims to 19.
Yesterday, the government said there will be no deploy UPDF in Entebbe after calls by the locals over alarming murders.
Minister Jejje Odongo was launching National Crime Preventers economic empowerment policy and founding ideology themed: “Be your brother’s keeper” in Kampala on Saturday.
Minister Odongo said: “Entebbe murder situation doesn’t call for a military intervention but a collective social solution.”
Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa jumped to police rescue, arguing: “We are doing our best as Police. We just need to strengthen our partnerships. And, I believe if we work together, we shall reduce crime.”
Mr. Mwesigwa, added that of 11 of the murdered were sex workers.
