The Minister for Trade and a longtime ally with President Museveni, Amelia Kyambadde has chosen to give her jailed husband a blind eye, writes Isaac Baligema.
TheUgandan can exclusively report that ever since her husband Wilson Kyambadde was convicted to civil Prison at Luzira early this week, the power minister has not bothered to intervene and save the father of her children.
Kyambadde was convicted to Luzira by the Deputy Registrar for executions at the High Court Flavia Nassuna for failing to pay over sh1.5b he fraudulently obtained from city businessman Amdan Khan in a bogus property deal.
A source close to the family intimated to us that Kyambadde never disclosed the money to the wife and there is nothing tangible he did with the huge sums of money hence the reason why the wife is treating him with the ‘I don’t give a damn’ attitude.
“What is sh1.5b to Amelia? But when he got the money he never disclosed it to the wife nor discussing the circumstances under which he obtained the money, she is utterly mad about the whole thing,” said a source that preferred anonymity.
Kyambadde allegedly approached Khan with forged State House documents indicating that President Museveni had offered to him a building along Nasser Road that he wanted to sell off; they agreed on $300,000 which he was paid on camera in the businessman’s office in Kampala.
However, it later emerged that the President had never offered him a building and it was all fraud which pushed Khan to drag Kyambadde to Court in pursue of his money.
Kyambadde, however, played cat and mouse for over a year and skipped several Court summons which triggered to the Court to issue an arrest warrant but even then, it took celebrated city bailiff Moses Kirunda of Spear Link Auctioneers and Bailiffs over two years to finally zero on him.
“This has been one of the difficult tasks in my career as a Court bailiff because that man has been very elusive! For two years he has been evading me in a manner I can hardly explain,” said Kirunda at the High Court soon after the aging Kyambadde was convicted.
Kyambadde was connected to Mr. Khan through Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko.
Despite being in jail, Kyambadde receives sh3,000 daily from his tormentor Khan for upkeep!
