The Court of Appeal has confirmed Kunihira Agnes as the duly elected Female Workers’ representative to Parliament, after dismissing with costs an appeal filed by her rival Tuunde Mary.
Tuunde had faulted Justice Rugadya Atwooki for failing to find that Kunihira held campaigns on voting day, bribed women voters with Shs20,000s notes, and that there was non- compliance of electoral laws because EC didn’t display the voters register as required by the law.
However, three Court of Appeal justices Steven Kavuma, Richard Buteera and Alfonse Owiny-Dollo have ruled that the display of the register at every Parish or ward would not be applicable to the election of workers representatives to parliament and no evidence of bribery has been adduced.
That Kunihira also denied ever raising her thumb to voters on polling day at Namboole and her evidence was corroborated by the Returning Officer who was at polling station all the time and no one complained.
