Just 48 hours after failing to help Kampala Capital City Authority advance the 2017 Total CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals, striker Geoffrey Serunkuma has been named the captain of the National team to feature in the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign.
Sserunkuma, 34 has made clear his desire to lead both his country, which coach ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has acquiesced to.
“Geoffrey Serunkuma will be captain for the CHAN games,” the Uganda coach said. “We have several players who have excellent leadership qualities and Geoffrey is a player we have worked with, with the senior national before and for a long time.
“He’s got a terrific mentality and I know he is delighted to be leading the team.
“He finished the season in great form and any team would want a finisher of his quality in their side.”
According to Fufa, Serunkuma will be deputized by defenders Nico Wadada of Vipers SC and Sc Villa Jogoo’s Bernard Muwanga.
Micho has also released the squad of 25 players to resume training at Mandela National Stadium today ahead of the qualifier against South Sudan on this Friday in Juba.
