The Commission of Inquiry Into land matters’ planned visits Mbale, Soroti, Mubende, Fort Portal and Kasese among others have been suspended until further notice.
This follows the Commission Chairperson, Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, says the Commission will take a technical break until when money is availed.
Its public hearings citing lack of funds but will continue receiving complaints through its complaints desk in Kampala.
She however, didn’t reveal how much money the Commission needs to complete its work in the six month’s period it was allocated. The Commission Secretary, Olive Karazawe who also doubles as the Accounting Officer wasn’t at the Press conference to answer questions on the funding challenges.
In May, Lands Minister, Betty Amongi assured the Commission that she would do what it takes to ensure the Commission gets the required funding.
Bamugemereire notes that the Commission has reached out to the Lands Ministry on the funding in vain.
