Supporters of Kyadondo East MP seat aspirant, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine have today morning stormed Kira Division police demanding for his release.
He arrested as he tried to address his supporters at Kasaganti and whisked away from Kasangati Police before being detained at Kira.
“Where is our Ugandan Lucky Dube? Where is our Bobi Wine? Our freedom fighter!,” supporters chanted outside Kira police station on Tuesday.
Some supporters are threatening to ‘take action’ if he is not released before 11:00 am as confrontation between his supporters and police continue. “We shall burn down this station,” said an unidentified a supporter flanking Bobi Wine’s campaign manager Samuel Walter Lubega, a former presidential candidate himself.
It is not yet clear why police arrested him though a police constable told TheUgandan Bobi Wine was arrested after he refused to follow police orders instructing him to abandon a scheduled campaign rally.
Fever
As the campaigns in Kyadondo East reach the climax, the mood of supporters and candidates cannot get any vigorous.
Two long term political rivals, President Museveni and FDC’s Dr Kizza Besigye will today face off as they grace the last campaigns of their flag bearers Sitenda Sebalu and Apollo Kantinti respectively.
The two candidates were part of the campaigns in 2016 where Mr Kantinti won the poll but couldn’t sustain the seat as High Court nullified his election over irregularities.
Today’s arrest of Bobi Wine might cause shockwaves though.
