Authorities at Busiu Health Center III in Busiu Town council in Mbale district have expressed concern over the escalation of Sexually Transmitted Disease-STDs.

Daniel Opolot, the acting in charge of Busiu Health Center III, says more than 100 people tested positive for syphilis and gonorrhea last month.

According to Opolot, most of those who tested positive for the STDs were between 17 and 30years of age.

Husane Malundu, the Busiu Town Clerk, attributes the escalation of STDs to increased prostitution by young people in Busiu town council especially in the evening hours.

He threatened to revoke the trading licenses of Pubs especially those that stage “Kariok” and nude shows every Friday.

Moses Samali, the Busiu Town Council LC III chairperson, has asked parents to guide their children, such they don’t get such diseases and die young.

An employee at one of the Pubs, who declined to be named, denied that they are behind the escalation of STDs in the area.
