After a weekend of intense fighting in which at least 4 people were killed and more than 20 others injured during the resultant clashes,  displaced people in Apaa parish, Amuru district are not amused by government’s decision to delay distribution of relief food by over 24hours.

This was after government finally delivered food to displaced people in Apaa parish where several houses and animals were also destroyed in the clashes. The consignment of beans, rice and Maize flour arrived at Amuru district stores at 3am this morning but could not ration it out.

Gilbert Olanya, the Kilak South Member of Parliament, says the consignment is worth six tonnes.  According to Olanya, the relief will be distributed to the displaced persons in Apaa trading center on Wednesday.

Michael Lakony, the Amuru LC V chairperson, says the food relief will benefit more than 1,000 people. Disaster Preparedness Minister, Hillary Onek has asked Amuru authorities to ensure equitable distribution of food relief.

The affected people were displaced fled their homes following a raid by armed Madi youths from Adjumani disputed over a disputed piece of land.
