While many Ugandans continue questioning Buganda kingdom’s land title registration, ‘Ekyapa Mungalo’, the commission of inquiry on land Matters has today heard that the Uganda investment authority (UIA) is in battles with the Daudi Chua prince clan heads over the 600 acres of land in Namanve Industrial Park.
The royal clan says this land was unlawfully grabbed by the authority and now distributed to various investors.
The UIA executive director, Jolly Kaguhangire reveals to commission chaired by lady justice Catherine Bamugemereire that the battle between the two parties has gone on for so long and now they want to verify the land titles presented by the clan heads.
Government allocated part of Namanve Central Forest Reserve in Wakiso District towards the construction of infrastructure projects in the area.
Gazetted in 1932, Namanve Forest Reserve (NFR) originally measuring 2170.28 hectares, was meant to serve as a catchment area for Lake Victoria.
However, in the 1990s, government degazetted 1000.9 hectares of the forest reserve to pave way for establishment of an industrial park.
Officials say that the remaining part of the reserve has been allocated for the construction of an inland port at Bukasa, creation of the right of way for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project and the Southern Express Highway.
