Popular city lawyer and activist Andrew Karamagi has Thursday launched an onslaught to President Museveni reappointment of Gen Kale Kayihura as Inspector General of Police (IGP) for another three-year term, placing him at the helm of the country’s law and order agency until 2020.

Mr. Karamagi and another  political activist,  Brian Atuheire (ethno-botanist) are demanding the parliamentary appointments committee and the Speaker of Parliament, Rebeca Kadaga  stay the approval of Kayihura’s next term of office, claiming that; ” .. IGP Kayihura has for long exhibited blatant disregard for human life, dignity and violence that has continuously been meted out against citizens in the name of maintaining securing and public order.”

Their petition was handed over to the speaker’s office for she heads  the appointments committee and asked her not to confirm Kayihura for the next term in office until investigations against police are done over violation of human rights.

TheUgandan understands that about 112 petitioners signed the pinning police for its brutality and accusing it of harassing Ugandans especially the opposition politicians among other people hence need to cause investigations.

The activists accuse Kayihura of being partisan, brutal especially to the media and his failure to improve the welfare of the police force, a claim he has often denied.

Karamagi wanders how the President could award Gen.  Kayihura a new term yet himself  accusing police of being  full of criminals. He has been joined by opposition legislators and vowed to give Gen. Kayihura a ‘bloody nose’ when he enters appearance for vetting before parliament’s appointments committee at a yet to be communicated date

Karamagi, lean and of medium height has been heralded by Ugandans since January 31st 2014, the time that he picked up then Attorney General Peter Nyombi’s speech from the podium. Then a 25-year-old, Karamaji walked to Attorney General (AG) Peter Nyombi who was delivering a speech, whispered to him and took his speech leaving the AG panicky.

The Uganda Christian University (UCU) schooled anti-Corruption activist has legally represented media organisations and harassed Ugandans in courts of law countless times.
