THE Victoria University Kampala 2017 graduating class saw more than 21 students from different countries receive their scrolls at the Kabira Country club recently.
Dr Martin Aliker, a distinguished influential business leader and entrepreneurial mentor, who is the university chancellor, graced the event.
At the glamorous event, 18 students received degrees, while a further two obtained diplomas.
“Education is not the preparation for life but it is life itself,” Rajiv Ruparelia, the Director Ruparelia Group of Companies and one of the promoters of the university after officiating the ceremony told TheUgandan.
“Parents’ investment in education is critical and overrides other options. More important however is the value addition and productivity that these graduates will carry along with them into the job market,” he added, lauding those parents and Victoria University for the pursuit of quality education tailored on the needs of the national and regional job markets, saying their objectives align with the government’s policy to build an ICT-literate and knowledge-based economy.
Dr. Aliker flanked by the Acting Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, Joseph Nyakaana called on the students who obtained to strive towards achieving success as well as using the knowledge imparted to them to add value to society.
“As you go out into the society, be a good role model to others. Our country is experiencing an unprecedented decline in moral behavior,” Dr. Aliker said, for his part expressed high expectations for the graduates.
“Use your knowledge to connect as human beings,” he said.
University Council chairman David Byatike Matovu challenged the graduands to become the university’s ambassadors and remarked that graduation is a landmark event in the life of any person which only comes after a thorough study of a body of knowledge.
“It means our graduands have completed the study of a body of knowledge to a sufficient level to be awarded their degrees,” Matovu said at outside the graduation venue as parents, media and graduads mingled.
