Besides low voter turnout was exacerbated by late delivery of polling materials at some polling stations, Police has arrested youths ferried reported ferried from Kitgum to vote for the NRM candidate in Aruu North by-elections.
Citizen Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) coordinator, Crispin Kaheru said the youth were intercepted by residents in Agangura Sub-county before violence broke up.
The youth were moving in four trucks and started beating people when they were stopped and one resident was severely injured.
Locals said they suspected the youth from Kitgum to be illegal voters for the ruling party -NRM.
The race is mainly between NRM’s James Kidega and Lucy Achiro, an independent candidate who is FDC party leaning.
Others in the race are: Vincent Okot Obutu of the Democratic Party, Justin Boswell Oryema, and Henry Komakech who are independent candidates.
