Police investigating the looting of the offices of The Observer newspaper that saw property including computers and other electronic gadgets stolen believe the security guards were involved.
Detectives on Saturday found the security guard Isaac Chibet’s uniform and gun on the premises, but he cannot be contacted as his phone is switched off.
Chebet works for KPI security firm. Chebet who hails from Kapchworwa has only been in Kampala for no more than a month according to his brother.
But KPI security officials insist Chebet may have been kidnapped.
More than 20 computers at the newspaper’s headquarters on Tagore Crescent, Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb were stolen in the break-in.
Police also said the computer that stores CCTV footage gathered from within the office premises was also taken by the hoodlums.
This is the second incident of its kind in a space of six months at the paper’s offices within a few months.
Outgoing Managing Director Richard Kavuma says the motive of the break-in is still unclear.
