The Uganda Police have arrested a clearing agent based at Busia border post and five other suspects from a hideout in Busia town as investigations in the assassination of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi continue.
Kaweesi, the former police spokesperson was gunned down on March 17th alongside his driver Godfrey Wambewo and bodyguard Kenneth Erau. Unknown gunmen ambushed the car in which the three were traveling and sprayed it with bullets less than a kilometre away from Kaweesi’s home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.
At the height of the investigations a fortnight ago, elite Police operatives camped in Busia area and other border crossings to stop suspected killers from escaping the country.
The yet to be paraded before media ‘clearing agent’ had allegedly helped one of the suspected shooters sneak into Kenya.
The six suspects arrested at Busia were on Wednesday whisked to Kampala for forensic analysis.
The Kampala Metropolitan Political Commissar and spokesperson Emilian Kayima could not be reached for a comment.
This news website understands that Police have also arrested the chairperson of the boda boda stage, next to the crime scene to help with investigations because eyewitnesses told detectives that just hours after the shooting incident, some riders disappeared from the stage and have never been seen again.
