The late Mayanja Nkangi has been praised as an incorruptible leader who should be an example to those in various leadership positions.

Nkangi, a former prime minister in the Mengo government also held various positions in the central government.

The reigning Buuganda premier Mr Charles Peter Mayiga said that it will take long to forget Nkangi’s leagacy.

“When many people assume public offices, they resort to stealing and this is why we have a dead health and education sector and other poor infrastructure. Many thieves are out there enjoying and those who are sent to court come back laughing.

Mayiga said that government should honour Nkangi by fighting for the ideals that he stood for.

The Buganda Katikiro was speaking at a church service for the late Mayanja Nkangi at Namirembe Cathedral right.

The service was attended by senior government leaders and officials from the Buganda Kingdom.

They included Vice President Edward Sekandi, Buganda queen Nabagereka Slyvia Naginda, former Prime Ministers Amama Mbabazi and Apolo Nsibambi.

Also in attendance was Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa NRM chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa Lord Mayor Eria Lukwago and Jennifer Musisi among others.

“Nkangi has never been named in theft. Stern steps should be taken on thieves in government,” Mayiga said.

Mayiga explained that although Buganda was not a rich kingdom at the time Nkangi was premier, the fallen leader ensured that the resources available were put to the right use.

“The late Mayanja served in only big government offices and Buganda Kingdom but he doesn’t have any corruption record,” said the Katikiro.

The chief mourner, Vice President Edward Ssekandi said Nkangi was a patriotic Ugandan with a great track record.

“He left an impeccable track record that will take a long time to fill. He was selfless, patriotic while serving Uganda, valued unity peace and development, Uganda has lost a true servant,” Ssekandi said.
