Uganda’s biggest opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Tuesday flopped massively after its candidates contesting for the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) seats  for the period 2017 – 2022, Ekwau Florence Ibi and Kamateneti Ingrid Turinawe have lost.

Ibi Ekwau polled 179 whereas Ingrid Turinawe got 25 votes.

Democratic Party (DP) candidate Mukasa Fred Mbidde who appeared number one on the ballot paper sailed through with  311 of 398 valid votes of 428 Members of Uganda’s Parliament.

Mbidde was joined by National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidates Akol Rose Okullu (370 votes), Musmali Paul Mwasa (350 votes), Mugyenyi Mary (341 votes), Kasamba Mathias (359 votes), Namara Dennis (329 votes), Odongo George Stephen (346) while Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party candidate Opoka-Okumu Christopher who appeared number ten on the list got 274 votes and the 9th pick was independent candidate Suzan Nakawuki who got 298 votes.

As anticipated, all 6 NRM nominees went through, as well as the incumbent candidates Fred Mukasa Mbidde, (DP) and UPC’s Chris Opoka and Independent candidate Nakawuki.

Both FDC’s candidates Ingrid Turinawe (left) who could not even be allowed to freely campaign earlier in day, as she was shouted down by the ruling party MPs, as well as Florence Ibi (not in picture) lost out in the poll.
