Police in Kampala have  arrested and detained a city lawyer, Robert Mukasa Lugalambi for stealing Shs300 million that was meant to compensate 600 families that were illegally evicted from their land by former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Sejusa.
Mr Lugalambi was arrested on Friday and he is being held at Central Police Station, Kampala.
He is accused of defrauding about 600 families of nomadic herdsmen from the oil-rich Wanga area of Buliisa District.

According to police, the residents took government to court after they were unlawfully evicted in 2007 by the former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Tinyefuza aka Sejusa.
They won the case and were awarded costs and damages amounting to over Shs300 million.
However, their lawyer who helped them to win the case decided to use the money to solve his problems rather than give the money to the rightful owners.
The residents claim their lawyer, Lugalambi of Mukasa Lugalambi Advocates and Solicitors stole and refused to pass it to the right beneficiaries.

The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Emilian Kayima has told our reporter that the case will be taken forward so that the families can recover their money.
“We shall forward the file to the office of the DPP for perusal and legal advice and we expect to take him (Lugalambi) to court soon,” said Mr Emilian Kayima.
