The ruling National Resistance Movement parliamentary caucus will today sit to vote for their representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly EALA.
The decision to choose representatives by the NRM caucus was reached at on Saturday after 47 candidates stormed state house Entebbe to be vetted by the party’s Central Executive Committee chaired by president Museveni.
The vetting couldn’t take place because of the huge number of contestants compared to the small number of CEC, with some members skipping the vetting and others like Captain Francis Babu being in the race as well.
4 of the contestants have since then withdrawn from the hotly contested race leaving the current number at 43 which is the highest number in the history of EALA elections.
Tension is high among the contestants with some making transnight campaigns and others being at parliament by 6am to strategize and beg for votes from members of parliament at the last hour.

“This is the most hotly contested EALA election. They are lobbying seriously. I woke up today morning only to find 145 messages from these contestants and being in several WhatsApp groups that they formed” the legislator who preferred anonymity said.
Today’s votting in the NRM caucus comes a day after FDC chose former legislator Florence Ibi beating hands down notorious Ingrid Turinawe to hold the party’s flag.
