Coach Micho Sredojevic has told Portugal-based Cranes star William Luwagga Kizito that he won’t play for Uganda Cranes again unless he apologises for showing indiscipline while at the 2017 Afcon finals in Gabon.
Luwagga showed his displeasure by ignoring both his captain Goeffrey Massa and the coach on the bench during the dead-rubber against Mali on that the soggy field at Stade D’Oyem on January 25, 2017.
It was not the first time that Luwagga is being accused of indiscipline at the tournament with team sources revealing that he led the mini-player strike over the jerseys others threatened to boycott to play the game against Mali if they did not have their way, but Micho has drawn a line and demanded that the player who struck a key goal in the qualifiers away in Botswana says sorry this time.
Explaining the reason why Luwagga who received his first call up to the national team in 2012 will not be considered for upcoming Cranes engagements later this year, Micho warned that the 23-year-old midfielder could be frozen out completely unless he shows how much he cares about representing his country and apologises.
“That happens to players allover the world but if Luwagga doe not apologise to me and the national team, he will not be able to be selected again,” Micho said.
“I will only call him again if i see a written, personal apology from him.”
The player and his agent have refused to comment about the matter but if Micho keeps his stance, Luwagga, a key player on the national team will miss out when Uganda travels to Cape Verde for their next competitive fixture between June 5-13 before the Cranes host Egypt in Kampala for the Fifa 2018 World Cup qualifier on August 28 before the return leg in Egypt on September 2.
The Cranes managed a point and scored a goal in a tough Group D that saw them finish bottom of the log and 13th overall in Gabon with a better goal difference than the other seven teams that failed to progress to the last eight.
Born in the district of Wakiso, Kizito joined Uganda Premier League side Bunnamwaya FC (now SC Vipers) in 2009 at the age of 15. In his first professional season with Vipers, the team won the Ugandan Super League in 2010 – the first time in the club’s history.
In the summer of 2012, Kizito signed for Portuguese second division side Leixoes where he scored several goals before joining Sporting Covilha in January 2014.
