President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has received and held bilateral talks with the visiting Prime Minister of Qatar, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, who is also Minister for Cabinet Affairs.

During the meeting that took place today at State House, Entebbe, President Museveni and his guest who led an eight-man delegation, discussed political and economic issues with a view to strengthening development in both countries.

President Museveni assured his guests that it is viable to invest in Uganda saying that the country has the technical provisions and economic protection for any investment as mandated in the national constitution of 1995.

Qatar and Uganda already have a formal bilateral labour framework  that’s sees see several Ugandans get employment in one of the most influential and rich Gulf States.

The government of Uganda, owing to an unemployment rate of 80 per cent, is increasingly looking outside its borders for employment for millions of Ugandans.

The warming diplomatic relations between Uganda and Qatar may not come as a surprise. The two countries have been quietly embracing each other in the business domain. Qatar Airways, the national flag career of Qatar flies to Entebbe although Uganda hasn’t reciprocated yet. While it’s not official, it’s understood that over 5000 Ugandans live and work in Qatar and remit millions of dollars in earnings back home.

After the talks, President Museveni  left for Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to attend the 28th African Union Summit and was seen off at Entebbe International Airport by the Vice-President, Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
