Half of the 100 most wanted criminals in Uganda who have been terrorising residents in the capital Kampala have been arrested.

On Friday, Uganda Police Force through its operation “sustaining peace in Kampala metropolitan” has arrested 50 high profile criminals who have been terrorizing the area.

The operation was done in collaboration Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) extending as far as Wakiso and Mukono districts and also had the arrest 15 suspects who have been throwing leaflets threatening to attack residents at night.

At the beginning of this week, IGP Kale Kayihura launched an operation codenamed “sustaining peace in Kampala metropolitan” with intention of curbing all sorts of criminals out of Kampala metropolitan.

Updating the media on the progress of the operation Kampala Metropolitan commander Frank Mwesigwa noted that they had a watch list of 100 high profile criminals, but managed to arrest 50.

“We had a watch list of over 100 prime suspects in murders and robberies in Kampala. We have so far arrested 50 of them,” Mr Mwesigwa said.

According to Mwesigwa, the suspects were involved in criminal activities including theft, murders, robberies among others, adding that they have recovered a lot of evidence to be used to prosecute them.
