Commanded by Kampala South RPC Sirajje Bakaleke, Police officers have Monday shot three people in the road near the Kyengera-Busega swamp, in Wakiso District.

Taxi drivers and touts at the Kyengera-Nsangi had banned those from Kibuye from crossing to Nsangi, ordering them to only stop in Kyengera Taxi Park where the Kyengera drivers can pick the passengers heading to Nsangi. They also accuse the leadership of Kyengera Town Council of introducing prohibitive levies.

They had parked about 10 taxis right across Kampala-Masaka Road at Busega and caused a traffic jam stretching several kilometres and eyewitness reports said that Nsangi DPC Peter Ochan and his officers moved in and fired bullets and tear gas at the drivers. One of the drivers, Umar Ssentongo claimed that DPC Ochan of acting on orders of Mr Abdu Kiyimba, the mayor of Kyengera Town Council to rough them up after they had decided to park their vehicles in the middle of Masaka Road.

The injured were admitted to Mulago Hospital with serious bullet wounds after running battles between police and rival groups of commuter tax operators at Kyengera trading centre, on Masaka road.
