The ruling party National Resistance Movement ‘s caucus has Wednesday voted in support of the motion seeking to introduce a bill to scrap the presidential age limit.

During the meeting a press at the Prime Minister’s office on Wednesday, following an NRM Caucus which sat at Parliament, Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa revealed that 287 of 296 NRM MPs have voted to support a motion by Raphael Magyezi seeking leave to present a private members bill.

Hon Magezi, according to the whip, will present a motion tomorrow along with draft amendment bill, and if permitted, will be given 45 days to start working on the Bill.

“As we speak, there is no bill,” Hon Nankabirwa said.

Only 4 NRM MPs were in support of a referendum with 2 abstaining, 7 rejected while 287 voted in favour.

Asked why the caucus had exhibited urgency, Hon. Nankabirwa said NRM MPs were concerned about the timing and government could not stand in the way.

Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa has revealed that a private member, Hon Rafael Magezi will seek official leave from parliament, to go and start working on the bill which is aimed at amending Article 102 (B) of the constitution.

On Tuesday, Oulanyah told the plenary that he had received a motion in relation to the age limit and another notice of motion and expects to discuss the matter with the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Thursday morning on how to proceed before the motions are presented to Parliament.

Kadaga who has been away on official duty is reportedly back in the country.
