The prime suspects in the killing of women in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District on Wednesday failed to take a plea in connection with the brutal murders by a Nabweru Chief Magistrates Court after it emerged that the court does have jurisdiction to try them.
All the charges slapped against the accused attract a maximum penalty of death by hanging on conviction.
The suspects; Ibrahim Kaweesa, Robert Mugerwa, Tamale Isma,Steven Ssempijja, Mahad Kakumba, Sam Mayambala,Philip Tumuhimbise, Tina Prosper Nantongo, David Wasswa,George Ssempa, Bosco Waligo and Ismeal Ssegawa appeared before Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani who then remanded them to Luzira prison until September 12, 2017 as inquiries into their case continue.
Prosecution alleges that the accused, for purposes of intimidating the public for either a social, political or economic reason and without regard to the safety of others, directly involved themselves in the acts of terrorism by murdering Patricia Nansubuga,vMaria Birungi, Teddy Nakachwa, Juliet Nampijja, Josephine Nakazibwe and four other unidentified women.
They are also alleged to have robbed the deceased persons of their property including a mattress , two mobile phones, two blanckets , a pair of bedsheets and Sh100,000.
